Pagerank Update And My Thoughts On It
As you may know by now, the big G has completed its quarterly update, and as usual, caused a tidal wave of discussion and uproar.

Several of my fellow blogger friends, wrote a post on their blog, with their comments and thoughts on the infamous pagerank update. There was the fat cupcake eater or is it the kid who eats fat cupcakes, who wrote on his rise to PR 3 in 7 weeks. Then there was the British bloke who has an affiliate blog, but rarely writes on affiliate marketing, who got his cherry popped with a PR 2.
Then there is the crazy American who can sell ice (and ebooks) to (blind) eskimos, who came in with a respectable PR 2. And how can i forget the site flipper cum laude, SuiteJ, who flipped his first blog in record time, and made an impressive profit. Well done, Jay.
As for me (with my army of blogs), some went down from a PR 2 to PR 1. One shot up to a PR 3, and two others stayed at PR 2. So quite a mixed bag. Oh! and this one, my network blog, stayed at PR 3. Final shout out goes to the most prolific blogger i know, no, not Darren Rowse, but Max from Zedomax.
The guy is a blogging machine. Take a look here, here, here, and here.
Why did G34 Media Stay At PR 3?
It is my belief that G34 Media stayed at PR 3, because i didn’t actively seek out backlinks. Plus this past quarter i didn’t write much on it, so in turn not many link opportunities were availed of. As you know pagerank is all about (quantity and quality) of backlinks.
Anyways, that is my theory.
What Are Your Goals For The October 2008 PR Update?
My goals for the next rank update include:
- writing more valuable articles
- having bi-weekly contests
- actively seek out backlink opportunities via various methods
- and basically just step it up a notch.
My overall (short and long term goals) revolve around making and sustaining an online income of around $3000 a month.
Currently my MMO projects include:
Blogging
Freelance Writing
Domains
Site Flipping
Via the 4 MMO projects mentioned above, i will take stock in December 2008, and see where im at. Am i meeting, exceeding, or not making my goals? We will see, and as usual i will provide regular updates here, so you can follow along.
Reader Question
How did you do with this last rank update? Did you learn anything on this PR update? And what are some of your overall goals for years end? Share below.

Thanks for the mention! Can’t wait to see the results of your self audit. Would be interesting to see how you’ve been fairing out against your own goals… I audit my self weekly… maybe you’ll have a better return. LOL.

Hi, PB:
Well fact is i tend to throw myself nilly willy into things and then later i realize i should have done this, done that, etc.
I started blogging back in March 2007, and it was just for fun. It wasn’t till about 6 months ago or so, that i started to take it seriously and try to make some money with it.
Had i monetized earlier, or from the get go, i probably would be making more now. But all is good. Everything happens for a reason, and i have zero regrets.
The best part of this whole blogging and MMO stuff, is working from home. I love that. I’m nowhere near where i need to be just yet. But i can see the light.
The thing with you is that you have, what i call “identifiable skills”. You are a site designer, or web designer, etc. That is very cool.
My skills are not so readily identified. Lots of people know what a website is, and what website design is. But not blogging, site flipping, domain names, SEO, etc. So you get my drift. I’m a mystery to lots of mainstream people, as far as what i do for a living.
Of course, i don’t use any of those terms to describe what i do. I simply say i do freelance writing on the web. So much easier, and people don’t look at you like you’re a martian. LOL.
Anywho, i’m now totally rambling. I’m actually quite excited, as i hooked my first webhosting referral, and made a nice commission on that. Plus sold a site of mine. Today is a good day! Let’s see what tomorrow brings.
Off to write some articles now. Nice to see you! Missy.

LOL…so thats all I am to you Missy? I had been meaning to check this out since I saw your link the other day. Things have been hectic for the ‘british bloke who has an affiliate blog, but rarely writes on affiliate marketing!’ It is actually a ploy of mine…gets more page views per visit when people have to trawl throught he archives to find what they think my site is all about. Anyway, it will soon be someone elses site and maybe they might write about Affiliate Marketing for you?! I am going to get back to what I need to be doing and that is making money. I have a possible 4 site flips coming soon and then, when I finish an ecommerce store for a client, I will be back onto my two new blogs, one of which will be my flagship one. Add BANS, landing pages, PPC campaigns, niche adsense sites, writing an ebook and another couple of larger projects into the mix it’s a wonder I have time to go to work from 9 till 5.
It’s not all about affiliate marketing you know
Well done on your sale, I just saw that over at Jay’s House. Did you manage to get bloggerssearch sold in the end? I heard you had problems?!?
Oh…and as a PS. I noticed your adsense blocks at the top were displaying wordpress set-up ads which is direct competition to your own service. Just an observation!

Hey Missy!
Thanks so much for the link luv and the awesome praise. Not sure if I deserve it, but it’s appreciated!
I have no doubt you can meet your goals. I watch you on Twitter and your blog updates seem like they’re every 20 minutes lol.
You must be pretty driven over there.
Definitely a good idea to lay it all out with action plans, to-do lists and schedules. It’s crucial if you’re doing so many different things regularly.
LOL@ The British Bloke “explaining himself”. (priceless).
Cheers!

Hi, AP:
You’re so much more than that. (wink wink) I also think of you as the “British bloke who does BANS”. lol. You’re so funny, AP. You crack me up.
I see that you’re quite busy. It is insane what we do all day long, isn’t it? Hopefully all this time WE spend behind our laptops will soon pay off.
As i’ve said before, do let me know where you end, blog wise. I’m glad we met, at OMG. Speaking of OMG, i wonder when Marc is going to get it together. I think the poor guy needs loads and loads of help. But he also doesn’t strike me, as super motivated. I’m not saying anything bad about him, i just we wish he would ask for help.
Thanxs for dropping by. See you here or at AP. Peace.
SuiteJ:
Dude, thanxs for the sweet visit. I had to give you mad props on the sale, yet again. As you blew us all out of the water. I’m still drying off from that one. (hehe)
I know that one can’t know if one is meeting their goals, unless one keeps track of them. So yes, i periodically monitor away, to see where i’m at.
I really like the NEW! look at SuiteJ.com, very nice. Good job.
I am driven, but sometimes i can be like PB, and be a scatterbrain, and/ or take on too much. Guilty guilty as charged.
I’m sure PB will like that reference. Yikes! hahaha.
Thanxs for sending me the PM on SP, i was wondering where Bryan was selling his sites at. I was just about to send him an email, asking him for his username on SP. Know i know it. Thx!
Man, that was a sweet sale. The $1,500 Zen Tricks one. Damn, he is good. “Churn um and burn um”, must be his motto.
Well, let me get back to work now. Thanxs again for dropping by. See ya around the way.
Missy.

Thanks for the mention Missy, glad to be included with a great group of guys and one Brit wanker.
I’m also glad to see that my Sitepoint name is common knowledge, I guess posting what I was working on in my sidebar made me a bit easier to find. As a favor, can we please not go sharing that with anyone else? All it takes is one loser to ruin an auction.
My name before that was onemansgoal, and you can see a bit of my sales history there too. Had to can that name, because I constantly got people questioning whether I was Marc or not.
Just a quick tip though, I don’t always sell at Sitepoint. There are types of blogs that perform well there, and others that can be sold for more at other places.

@ Jay: I am good for somethuing then? If only for comedy value?
@ Missy: I am glad I amuse you too! I agree with what you say about OMg and whilst it is nothing bad, I know Marc has other more important ways to spend his time than sitting at his PC. He does keep plugging away at it from time to time but really should has considered the amount of work involved before getting into this I feel. He is perhaps going to be better off going about his smaller niche sites quietly, then no one will care if he is out on his rocky mountains all day long!
@ Bryan: I intend to tell the world that your new sitepoint handle is ‘worldsbiggestwanker’
Thanks for that!
Shall I teach you some more British vernacular now you have mastered the use of that one?
You mean there is more to learn than just wanker? I just mastered that one.
