Blog Flipping Tip: 15 Domain Name Extensions
Ok. So you have a killer niche idea for your next blog flip, but the ideal domain name is taken. Many times the .net and .info variation will be available, but you prefer to stick with the .com version.

Well this can be annoying but no need to fret, as below i give you over 15 creative domain name suffixes and prefixes which you can use to snatch up the “next best thing”.
- Guide (as in yoga exercise guide.com)
- Hut (as in coupon hut.com)
- Point (jonas brothers point.com)
- Just (prefix)
- Blog (vegas golf blog.com)
- Weblog (taylor swift weblog.com)
- News (twilight movie news.com)
- Big (prefix)
- Solo (seo solo.com)
- Simply (prefix)
- Hub (blogging tips hub.com)
- Tips (social networking tips.com)
- Get (prefix)
- Zone (miley cyrus zone.com)
- Pros (freelance writing pros.com)
- Surplus (this one is good for product-based blogs such as plumbers surplus.com)
These are just some of the domain name extenders i have used when registering a name for a blog flip, when the one i prefer is already in use by someone else.
So next time you have that killer niche idea and a name in mind, but it’s taken, get creative and adopt one of the multi-purpose extenders above.
I’ve seen quite a number of great domain names lately on Sitepoint and would ask that next time you visit, do focus on the extenders some sellers are using. Then see if you can come up with a few on your own.
Oh! and one last thing, if at any time you have doubted the importance of using keywords in your domain name, see what Matt Cutts has to say about it.
Reader Question?
Have you used a funky domain name suffix or prefix that didn’t make my list above? Share below.

First one to comment here gets any post they choose re-tweeted to my 600 plus followers on Twitter. (Just leave the link in your comment) Keep it clean and useful, please. Thx! *Sucks to have to bribe readers to comment, but hey, some might say it’s smart marketing. Nothing wrong with giving incentives to get a desired action, right.

Hi Missy!
Another great post. Well, I think HQ and DB could be added to the list.
Point is great as I sold my Twilight site (Twilight Point) with that suffix. Hehe.

Nice list, maybe you should add that you should avoid prefix addons as they are way behind on search rankings. I experienced that myself and you should only do that in case you want to brand your site.

Hey Missy. What do you mean by “borrowing from Desmond”?
Oh! I love incentive! Hope I’m the first one to post here. Here’s the link : http://desmondblog.com/how-i-made-almost-3000-in-less-than-10-days-works/

Hi, PatG: Yeah i see that you still have the site. You need to explain to me better about the Yahoo Answers marketing that you did for that site. I want to try it on a new blog project of mine. I’ll hit you up on DP one night this week. Do you have an SP listing date set, yet?
Oh! and you were the first commenter today, so feel free to drop a link on your next comment. Peace!

Hi, Smashill: I don’t subscribe to that notion. I believe a domain and site WILL rank based on content and marketing, not on domain alone. Also as long as you have the keyword or keyword(s) in the name somewhere, it counts for SEO.
I would never buy sell or appraise a site based entirely on domain name alone. But good point and yes you’re right that a prefix or suffix should only be used if the IDEAL name is already taken. Good point!

Hi, Desmond: I meant that i borrowed from you the idea of adding in a personal blurb at the beginning of posts, i quite like that idea. So i kinda borrowed it. LoL.
P.S. You weren’t the first to post, but i will leave your link as is, and anyone who visits can click if interested. No worries! Plus that is a good post, too. You did good on BFF, nice set up and sale!
I’m out for the day. See ya guys later. Peace, Missy

ah well, that’s pretty clear that you have to have on site optimization, nevertheless I have two sites in the same niche, one ranking pretty well the other not. one time keyword in front other time on the back. Oh and another thing is that you should avoid a “-” between the words, that will pull your ranking down another notch.

Yeah but how do you know that the second blog is not ranking well, due to its domain name and not something else? It could be the links pointing to it, the quantity, on site stuff, offsite stuff, etc.
Why do you attribute the lack of ranking to domain name?

Which site? Taylor Swift fansite? You can e-mail me if you have any questions re: Yahoo! Answers as marketing tool.
It’s already listed. Current bid: $205 BIN: $20,000 (reserve in the mid to high $x,xxx) depending on the market. If I don’t reach the reserve I’m happy keeping it.
Is it possible to post a link about:
http://taylorswifthq.com/ringtones/taylor-swift-ringtones
and say “What’s your ringtone? Want Taylor Swift ringtone?” then the link, if possible.

Because I build them both the same, unique content, pretty much the same amount of backlinks. I attribute a lot of it to the domain name, maybe I am wrong, but I would not go for the search term at the end again in case I build a niche site.

Hey, Pat: I’ve figured out how you got the sales on TS HQ. I took a good look at your backlinks and see the referrals now. Good job! Yahoo Answers…does seem like a marketing gold mine, doesn’t it?
Am definitely going to try it on a diff niche site. Good luck on the sale!!!
P.S. Will post your link on twitter today. Cheers!

Yes, Missy Yahoo! Answers is good because people can search for your answers. Though you’ve answered lets say one question, many could be able to search for it and click the link for your site.
Thank you very much Missy. I’m alright if it doesn’t sell, I’ll still squeeze some more commissions if need be. Hehe.
